The Liberal Democrats across Wiltshire have put forward one hundred and forty-three candidates in the district council elections this May, and many more for local town and parish councils.

Liberal Democrat councillors in West Wiltshire have called First Great Western to account over the state of rail services in the district. Executive from the new rail franchise holder, First Great Western, attended a special meeting of the council on 20th March.

Liberal Democrat district councillors in West Wiltshire are holding local surgeries in their communities to hear the concerns of local residents during Local Democracy Week, enabling residents to drop-in to meet their representatives.

Leader of West Wiltshire District Council, Liberal Democrat Sarah Content, is taking her Cabinet of lead councillors out 'On the Road' to hear directly from residents their views on the council and their priorities for the future. They will be holding surgeries for residents in each of the district's five town during the next few weeks.

Stations in West Wiltshire, including Warminster, are set to lose several trains in each direction each day from December, if First's proposed timetable for the new Greater Western franchise gets the go-ahead.

Thu 24th Nov 2005:

Wiltshire County Council has announced plans to convert local waste into a substitute for coal for Westbury cement works, reducing the council's need for landfill sites. The news follows a commitment not to import waste products from the cement works' manager under questioning from Cllr Duncan Hames at a meeting hosted by West Wiltshire District Council.

At a hurriedly arranged Board meeting today, West Wiltshire Primary Care Trust (PCT) declared its decision to close Bradford on Avon Hospital permanently. It also decided to substantially downgrade the Westbury Hospital facility and confirmed that the threat of closure still hangs over West Wiltshire hospitals, notably Melksham, under its 'Pathways for Change' review.

Lib Dems, joined by Labour and two Independent councillors, have formed a new administration to run West Wiltshire District Council.

Local health services risk the axe after the Conservatives on West Wiltshire District Council voted for a budget which cuts the local Health Promotion Service by £65,000 per year from April. The cuts call into question the future of the popular cardiac re-hab classes at the district's leisure centres, the fall prevention classes, the Healthy Back programme, and the Health Link GP exercise referral initiative.

West Wiltshire District Councillors met on Friday night to decide the fate of the proposed road through the Hilperton Gap. The sometimes chaotic and often highly charged meeting was attended by over 300 members of the public.
