Council Confused on Staffing

8.49.00am GMT Wed 2nd Dec 2009

Eight months into the new Wiltshire Council (WC) and the Tory 'cabinet' has admitted to being confused about the number of staff vacancies.

In response to a question from Lib Dem councillor Chris Caswill about the number of unfilled vacancies the answer was, "We cannot say how many unfilled vacancies there are as this information is not yet available in SAP. The new organisational structures are still being built..." SAP is the new council's computing system.

There are still 20 staff members from the old councils who don't know what job they're supposed to be doing in the new one.

However figures show that the overall staffing levels have declined by a total of 153 across the council, with reductions in all departments except Children's Services where there's been a slight rise.
