Speed limit review8.22.00am GMT Mon 14th Dec 2009 The government has ordered councils to review speed limits on A and B class roads. The results of the review are now out for consultation. Implementation of the changes could start next summer and take about 3 years. The highest priority will be given to routes with higher than average collision rates. Each speed limit change will require a Traffic Regulation Order and orders will be grouped together geographically where possible to reduce the number of individual orders required and to reduce the costs. Any comments on the recommendations should be submitted to the relevant Parish or Town Council during the initial consultation period. The recommendations of the review have been discussed with the Police and their comments have been incorporated in the published results. The review relates specifically to speed limits on A and B class roads. It does not address other highway issues such as speed enforcement, traffic calming, pedestrian crossings or the use of unsuitable roads by heavy goods vehicles. Minor roads are not included in the review, but will be assessed once the changes to A and B class roads have been completed. The proposed changes involve increases in some limits and reductions in others. To find out what may be happening to your local road see http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/parkingtransportandstreets/speedlimitreview/speedlimitreviewrecommendationsaroads.htm for A roads or
