Wiltshire computer systems not fit for purpose

9.15.00am GMT Thu 17th Dec 2009

Wiltshire Council (WC) has admitted that its current computer systems are inadequate for the job of running the new council.

An anonymous spokesperson said, "As the transformation agenda has developed, it has become clear that the current contract with Steria will become increasingly unfit for the new demands of the way we want to work.

Consequently, we have decided we will issue a new tender for ICT support to reflect our new requirements with a view to the new contract starting on 1 January 2011. Crucially, this revised contract will reflect Wiltshire Council's needs to deliver more customer focussed, locally delivered service outcomes rather than being based on the current concepts of office based working."

This news will come as a relief to members and staff of the council who've been struggling to make the systems work.

Chief Executive Keith Robinson who oversaw the transition to the new council is leaving the authority in February.
