Government pulls plug on college schemes

11.09.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 3rd Jul 2009

Plans to relocate Trowbridge College to the old Bowyers site have been scuppered after the government quango known as the ' Learning and Skills Council (LSC)' changed its mind about funding the scheme.

On Friday 26 June the LSC finally published the list of new building projects which have approval. Whilst Wiltshire College (Chippenham) was initially shortlisted, no parts of Wiltshire College will receive any funding.

In fact no colleges in the South West region received any funding. The 13 successful Colleges are mostly in the North of England and are closely linked to Labour constituencies.
