Duncan Hames, the prospective Lib Dem MP for the new Chippenham Constituency has launched a campaign on the environment in his constituency.

Following on for last year's summer campaign on the NHS, Duncan and the local Lib Dem team have delivered almost 35,000 surveys to houses across the towns of Melksham, Chippenham, Corsham and Bradford-on-Avon.

The survey asks a series of questions ranging from 'What do you feel should happen to waste generated in Wiltshire?' to 'What would have to change to make you use public transport more often?' The results will be compiled in a report and fed back to local people later in the year.

Duncan Hames will also be hosting a public meeting on October 10th when Steve Webb MP, Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment will be coming to Chippenham. Together with local environmental groups, Mr Webb will answer the public's questions and hear their suggestions for tackling the problem.

Commenting on the campaign, Duncan Hames said:

"Many people tell me how passionately they feel about the environment. I believe that we must act now to safeguard our planet for future generations.

"For years the government have failed to act on climate change. The Liberal Democrats have demanded binding annual targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions, and cleaner energy and better public transport."
