Stop the Post Office Closures4.34.18pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 1st Jun 2007
The Lib Dems are leading the fight to save our post offices. Since 1999, as many as 20 post offices have closed in North and West Wiltshire alone, and the Government has confirmed it plans to close another 2,500 across the country. They have not yet said which post offices are at risk. "This is very bad news for many small communities, and puts vital services further out of reach for the people who are otherwise most isolated." says Duncan Hames, Lib Dem Parliamentary Candidate for the Chippenham constituency. Of all the political parties, only the Lib Dems have a costed plan for a better future for the Post Office network. New investment and greater freedom to trade, can support keeping post offices at the heart of local communities.
