General Election Result: Westbury Lib Dems up 3,395 votes

6.22.00am BST (GMT +0100) Fri 6th May 2005

Local Liberal Democrats have been boosted by their best result in this area for many years.

The Lib Dem vote increased by nearly 3,500 voters (a 3.3% increase in share of the vote).

Councillor Duncan Hames said:

"I would like to thank the thousands of residents in this constituency who supported me and their local Lib Dem team."

"Many more voted for us, recognising that the Lib Dems work for residents ALL year round."

The Westbury constituency is still held by the Conservatives, but there was an increased swing to the Lib Dems here this time.
