Nestle Closure Plan

12.00.00pm GMT Wed 25th Feb 2004

Commenting on the news that Nestle intend to close their Staverton factory later this year, Cllr Duncan Hames who represents the neighbouring village of Holt said:

"This news has come as a shock, and will no doubt cause much anxiety for the staff involved and their families. It is disappointing that the market hasn't responded to the efforts of workers to develop the factory in recent years."

"I have contacted the company to seek assurances that the workers facing redundancy will receive support and advice in finding new jobs. I have also sought to find out more about Nestle's intentions for their part of the site and the impact this will have for future employment prospects." added Cllr Hames.
