Lib Dem candidate Marion Sweet swept to victory in Tuesday 10th January's by-election.
Marion won 54% of the vote, and takes up her place on Royal Wooton Bassett Town Council.

Council Contracts department in disarray

Auditors have warned that Wiltshire Council's Contracts department is making a number of "high risk" mistakes. A string of missed clauses and "non-compliance with contract regulations" could expose the Council to "significant corporate risk".
Confusion on Council leisure centre offer

Wiltshire Council has offered a new year deal to help people get fit at the Leisure Centres across the county, but the deal was only available on days when the leisure centres were mostly closed!
Jon Hubbard, Lib Dem Group Leader, said "The Council are issuing press releases, and printing expensive glossy leaflets, but they haven't even checked the basics. The cheap deal was available for only three days at the start of January, but for two of these days Wiltshire's Leisure Centres were completely closed as a result of cuts to front line services by the Conservative run council!
"It's vital that we help people in Wiltshire stay fit and healthy, and that's why we proposed allowing free swimming for under-16's and pensioners in last year's Budget.
Council staff pay for personal calls with taxpayer cash

£536,000 of waste on Council mobile phones was identified by the Liberal Democrats in February's budget proposals. An Audit Report published this week revealed that the waste continues with the Conservative-run Council still allowing staff to make personal calls and not claiming back the cost.

Wiltshire Liberal Democrats have reacted with shock and horror to the Conservative's surprise announcement that 600 Wiltshire Council staff could lose their jobs.
Group Leader Jon Hubbard said "With no warning, 600 Council staff have been told their jobs are at risk just days before Christmas.
